5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Cement mixer that doubles as a blender!, By G. R. Stinson "DVD and Video Producer" (San Francisco, California, Planet Earth) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: KitchenAid KSB565BU 5-Speed Blender with 48-Ounce Glass Jar, Cobalt Blue (Kitchen) Honestly, I've been using KitchenAid products for a decade. I broke my last blender. (entirely my fault) They have changed the design in this model and actually improved on what was already a five star appliance. The carafe shape is better for making sure the stuff inside doesn't just swirl around. It is a non-circular shape so food folds into itself and mixes better. I bought it to make smoothies in the morning. I can drop frozen fruit and yogurt into this puppy and the chop ice setting will pulse it into a pulp wonderfully. Then switch to blend to complete the process. The pieces are easier to take apart and put back together for cleaning too. I have to say, I am glad I destroyed my old blender; or I would never have realized what a great improvement this model is. Highly recommended to someone who wants to buy the last blender they will ever need. (if you don't drop it 3 floors to the pavement) If you are used to buying... During a brainstorming call to KitchenAid customer support, I discovered that the silicone (I assume) gasket was abraded and the source of the leak. How that happened is curious. You cannot secure the blender/blade assembly onto the base unless the glass jar has been attached to the blade assembly with two clicks. While it appears that the gasket is immoveably tight, it obviously can shift during use, and be caught by the blades - a glaring design flaw. At any rate, customer support led me on an odyssey for over two weeks, telling me first that gaskets are on backorder, then telling me that a replacement gasket was on a FedEx truck en route to my house, then telling me again that they were on backorder. I wanted to order and pay for extra gaskets (in addition to the free one to be provided under warranty), and learned from their parts department that... They either wore out or did not crush ice or mix without constant stopping and using a rubber spatula to help mix. The Kitchen Aid crushes ice, frozen blueberries and other solids with ease. It is noisy, but so is smashing ice with a hammer in the garage. I use it two to three times a day. It is worth the price. It stays on my counter and is an attractive addition to my kitchen. It's been a hit with husband, as I make him Cappacino Crushes every afternoon. Better than Starbucks too. I actually have more than paid for this blender with Breakfast Smoothies etc. |
